1057. <i>Heptacodium miconioides</i> Rehder: Caprifoliaceae

Heptacodium miconioides, also known as ‘the seven-son flower’, is illustrated from a plant cultivated at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Originally China, it was discovered in early 20th Century, but first introduced into western horticulture 1980s plants grown Hangzhou Botanical Garden. A detailed description provided here, and ecology, cytology etymology of species are discussed. Type specimens have been studied lectotypes designated. This attractive hardy, autumn-flowering shrub great addition to any woodland garden should be much more commonly grown.
